How to Stockpile Self-Defense Weapons on a Budget

Self-defense is an issue that everyone, including our forefathers worried about. When Congress first decreed that all American citizens had the right to bear arms, they did so for two reasons. One, in an attempt to ensure that the general population always had a way to keep the government honest. The second reason was so that every American could defend themselves if necessary. Having firearms in your house and knowing how to use them properly is the best way to ensure you’re able to keep your family safe from any threat that comes onto your property.

The problem most Americans face is the cost of putting an arsenal together. Firearms aren’t cheap, nor is ammunition. The good news is that with some careful planning and shopping, it’s possible for you to put a nice arsenal together without having to take a second mortgage out on your home.

Comparison Shop

When it comes to firearms, don’t purchase the first weapon you see. It’s in your best interest to contact several retailers and learn what they charge for the same weapon. Don’t forget about online firearm dealers sometimes offer special discounts or lower prices than your typical local stores. Gun shows are another place where you can sometimes get a really good deal on both firearms and ammunition.

Stock Up on Ammo

Your arsenal requires a great deal of ammunition, so there really isn’t any reason why you shouldn’t purchase what you need in bulk quantities. Not only does this ensure you’ll always have enough firepower to defend yourself and your family, but also helps you save a great deal of money. In most cases, the more ammo you purchase at a time, the more money you’ll save per bullet or shell. If you find a bulk order deal on ammo that puts too large a strain on your immediate budget, see if you can’t talk a friend or family member into going in on the purchase with you.

Check Out Military Surplus Stores and Sales

The military won’t sell you any ammo or weapons, but that doesn’t mean you should ignore military surplus stores when you’re setting up your arsenal. They’re a great source for many of the other things you need to round out your arsenal. When you walk into an army surplus store, you can reasonably expect to find everything from tactical gear to ammo cans. Many military surplus stores around the country also carry knives and other supplies that every prepper should have tucked away in their house.

Consider Stocking Your Arsenal with Used Weapons

There’s a surprising number of high quality used weapons on the market, many of which would be a great addition to your personal arsenal. Many of these weapons can be acquired through private sales, at pawn shops, and at gun shows. If you’re looking for a used weapon, the most important thing to do is make sure you test the weapon to be sure it works before you purchase it. Don’t spend your money on something that needs to be repaired unless you have the expertise to do the work yourself.

Get to Know Your Local Gun Dealer

One of the best ways to get great deals on the weapons and ammunition you need to set up your arsenal is by forming a solid relationship with the local gun dealer. Most gun dealers are happy to give great deals to customers they know well and who frequently make purchases in their store. Forming a relationship with your local gun dealer does take time, but in the long run, it’s worthwhile. Even if the gun dealer isn’t able to cut you a good deal on a weapon you want, they might be able to offer you a discount on ammunition or range fees if you purchase from them.

Knowing you have a fully stocked arsenal that you can use if anything threatens your family will buy you a great deal of peace of mind. What are your best strategies to get self-defense gear on a budget?
