All Natural Alternatives to Prescription Pain Relievers

When the SHTF, you may not be able to have access to all the products and services you are accustom to using. One of those that may be affected could be prescription medications. If you were to have an injury where you would need prescription medications, getting those drugs could be a problem. You need to have alternatives that you can store and have ready to go if you can’t get them or if they run out. Fortunately, there are natural alternatives you can use. While they won’t do as great of a job as their prescription counterparts, they will definitely help, and you will be glad you had the forethought to stock up on them. Here are 4 all natural substitutes for prescription pain medications.

Willow Bark

For centuries people have used willow bark (as a tea) to help with migraines, and other aches and pains. Willow bark tea is a must have for your natural medicine cabinet. Additionally, it can have the blood thinning benefit as aspirin, so it can work for that as well. Those who take blood thinners should use caution with willow bark for that reason. You can either drink the tea or chew on the actual plant to get relief.

Blue Lotus

The blue lotus plant is not a lotus. It’s a lily, so the name can be a bit confusing. However, blue lotus has a host of ailments it can help with, most commonly migraines, and tinnitus, as well as muscle cramping and spasms. I did read that blue lotus could work better when used with beer or wine, as it further relaxes the body and relieves stress.

Kava Kava

The Kava plant has been widely known for helping with pain relief and for treating headaches and even fibromyalgia. The FDA has studied Kava, but at this time it is not red flagged and it is still able to be purchased. It is usually taken in a drink or tonic form, and is great at reducing stress in addition to other uses.

Wild Opium Lettuce

We all know that many prescription painkillers are opiates, so it’s only natural that you would want to stock up on an herb that comes from that plant family. You can find Wild Opium Lettuce in most parts of the United States. Most people wouldn’t recognize it at first and would probably see it as a weed and not a valuable pain reliever. WOL has a sap in it that is much like it’s cousin, the poppy. The sap releases a powerful chemical that rids you of pain and relaxes the body. You know how you feel when you take traditional opiate based painkillers? This is the same feeling. Not only that it can help with sleep. You can make a tea from the leaves, or roll and smoke them.

These are just some of the plant based, natural pain relievers you can find. It would be wise to have some of these in your emergency stockpile should you need them yourself or use them for bartering.
